Even a heavy downpour in the afternoon could not stop some 100 people from protesting against a `Merdeka gift' to start from Sept 1st: the controversial Sg Nyior toll! The government insist on imposing it -but the residents from Penang and adjacent Kedah reject it from the beginning! The irony of it coinciding with the Merdeka seems to escape the highway builder who highlight the Merdeka and the beginning of the toll collection in its electronic message board back-to-back. So who is to blame if the residents are not so happy with a Merdeka (freedom) which come with 30 years of toll payment the next day?
